Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors causing doomscrolling behavior in a student with the initials P, grade VIII at SMPN 1 Takalar. The study used a qualitative approach with a clinical case study method. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation using triangulation techniques involving guidance counselors, homeroom teachers, friends, and parents. Data analysis included data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings indicate that student P engages in doomscrolling behavior on social media, characterized by the habit of continuously scrolling through negative content without realizing it. This doomscrolling behavior is triggered by internal factors in the form of negative bias and lack of self-control. External factors include digital algorithms on social media and FoMO. This study confirms that doomscrolling is not just an ordinary digital habit, but rather a combination of the formation of negative bias and fear of missing out on news. The scientific contribution of this study is to enrich the study of adolescent digital behavior, especially the phenomenon of doomscrolling in the context of educational psychology and provide a foundation for guidance counselors to design adaptive and sustainable cognitive-behavioral approach interventions.
