Abstract

Subjective well-being refers to individuals' evaluations of their quality of life, including life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect. High levels of subjective well-being are essential for helping high school students cope with academic demands. One psychological factor assumed to contribute to subjective well-being is psychological capital, which consists of hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism. This study aimed to examine the effect of psychological capital on subjective well-being among senior high school students. A quantitative approach with an ex post facto design was employed. The study involved a population of 1,128 students, from which 346 participants were selected using the snowball sampling technique. Data were collected using the 24-item Psychological Capital Questionnaire (CFI = 0.920; TLI = 0.910; SRMR = 0.0450; RMSEA = 0.0615; McDonald's Omega = 0.948) and a 20-item Subjective Well-Being Scale (CFI = 0.974; TLI = 0.970; SRMR = 0.0332; RMSEA = 0.0431; McDonald's Omega = 0.955). Data were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression with Jamovi 2.3.28 and SPSS version 25. The findings revealed that psychological capital had a significant effect on students' subjective well-being. Students with higher psychological capital tended to report higher levels of subjective well-being. These findings suggest that psychological capital is an important psychological resource for promoting students' well-being in coping with academic demands.
